Monday Made It-July 4

Happy 4th of July!!! I hope all of you are celebrating our nation with your loved ones and have a safe and fun holiday.

It's my favorite day of the week (in the summer!). Monday Made It time!! I am linking up again with Tara from 4th Grade Frolics. I love that she has this event every Monday. It really motivates me to get things done.

Newsflash: As I was making everything new in gray chevron, I decided I will miss my polka dots. SO, I decided to ditch the original plan and stick with my polka dot theme! LOL I know it's silly but they make me happy!

My first made it is the hint that I gave you from my last post. If this is the first time you are visiting my blog (Hi!), I am in the progress of remaking A LOT of items I used to have in my classroom. You can read why Here and Here.

So this is the pic I posted last week.

Did you guess??

Yep, you guessed it-whisper phones. I really missed these last year! They are very easy to make. All you need is 3/4 inch pvc pipe and elbow joints (I think that is what they are called. They are in the plumbing section.) Just make sure the two ends are the same. Cut the pvc into 3 1/2 inch pieces, add tape of choice, and then put the ends on. Each one of my students gets one to keep at their desk so I also number them with a sharpie. Easy peasy!

If you are wondering where to get the polka dot tape, here is the website.

I did get it at Joann's years ago but I am not sure if they still carry it. Warning: The polka dots are clear! They look white in the picture because the pvc is white so it worked out for me. I have looked everywhere for actual black and white polka dot duct tape but I believe it does not exist. Someone could make A LOT of money if they would make it. HINT HINT!!!

My next made it was A LOT of sewing! I decided to remake my desk skirt and curtains. I have a new room with lots of windows so I am so excited to spruce them up.

Of course, my little ones had to help!

Here is the finished product!

Skirt for my desk!

I can't get into my room (and really don't want to) right now because they are cleaning so I will show you my old desk skirt. The new one will look the same with different ribbon.

I miss using pink! (One day I will have a neutral classroom again so I can use it!)

One quick tip: Use sew on velcro (the fuzzy side) and line the whole top of the desk skirt. I just sew a straight stitch right in the middle. Place several pieces of industrial velcro (pokey side)  around the desk. Then it is very easy to put on. I also only do one straight stitch at the top of the ribbon piece so if I change my mind later it is easy to rip out.

My last made it is the Close Reading Box that everyone is making. I had to make one too! This is a great freebie from Create, Teach, Share. You can get it HERE. I won't go into a lot of details as Tara blogged about it already. I have to tell you Amazon is the best and I love how it turned out. My students will love using them.

Well I am getting ready for my Thirty-One conference in Utah so I am not sure what will be on my made it list this week. Here is my site if you want to take a peek. Click HERE! I love Thirty-One bags so I started selling them this year.

See you next week!
